Game Programmer

As a game developer I love to explore intelligent ways to keep a game fun and interesting. This includes looking into and creating different forms of procedural generation to keep games feel fresh and Artificial Intelligence that does more than just follow the player around.

​

As a current third year student at university I plan to find myself a place in gameplay programming and to continue on developing some of my personal projects I have created across my course.

Sonic Sphere

Sonic Sphere is a work in progress stealth game that focuses on the main theme of sound. Unlike usual stealth games that focus on peeking around corners, the player will instead be granted limited access to two different projectiles. One that allows the player to see enemies through walls and another that will emit a sound wave to distract and confuse enemies.

​

The balls velocity and effect radius are dependant on how many recourses are depleted into the throw. The more resources used, the larger the sound effect radius. The flip side is that more resources create a heavier ball that can not be thrown far. Meaning if the player wants a loud distraction they had better be prepared as they can only do so at their feet.

Scrapped

Scrapped is single-player dungeon crawler game, created by a small team of programmers and artists whilst studying at university.

​

It is a game centred around fighting through hoards of enemies in dungeons that only get stronger as you play. Defeating these enemies will allow players to recruit them as allies, granting the player new skills and perks to take on the final boss at the end of the dungeon.

​

My personal involvement in the project as a programmer was centred around procedural map generation and enemy controllers.

ACE

Mobile Dungeon

A mobile dungeon game that utilises procedurally generated chunks to create an endless runner. During the game the player is constantly chased by oncoming shadows and must make quick decisions in order not to be caught or fall off the edge.

​

Using an intelligent procedural generator means that new chunks can be created and added to the game with little effort allowing for the game to be constantly updated allowing for the player to feel like they are constantly having to learn new sections of the map and not repeating the same runner over and over again.

Asteroids Classic Evolved (ACE) is a modern take on the asteroids arcade game.

In development as a university project by a small team of developers with the goal to recreate the classic game of asteroids enjoyable to a modern audience. 

​

ACE takes you through the world of asteroids allowing you to plot your course through space avoiding and destroying not only asteroids but enemies unique to their own planetary environments. Defeating these enemies allows the player to upgrade their ship in the aim to defeat the boss at the end of their path.
